Dental Bridge

A dental bridge can restore your smile as well as your bite. Missing teeth can change the appearance of your face and also affect the ways in which you speak and eat. A removable, fixed or implanted bridge can remedy these dental deficiencies, and help you face the world with confidence.

The benefits of a dental bridge? You may not think the gap in your teeth is causing a tremendous difference in your life, but the truth is that missing teeth can actually put a strain on your remaining teeth. The gap in your smile can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can lead to occlusion – bite problems – or even jaw related injuries that can lead to periodontal disease. Gaps in the teeth can disrupt eating habits and can even affect patients’ speaking abilities. Lisps and an inability to make proper consonant pronunciations can develop as a result of your missing teeth.

If you need a dental bridge, call us now. You need to consult with an orthodontic professional to determine which type of appliance will best suit your needs and lifestyle. Modern dentistry allows us to offer the following three bridges to fill in your gaps:
  • Removable
  • Fixed
  • Implanted

The fixed dental bridge is the most popular restoration appliance, and that is because it is comprised of a “filler tooth” that is held in place by the use of crowns, which are cemented to the existing teeth located on each side of the gap. Another fixed appliances is known as the “Maryland” bridge, which is typically used to replace the anterior – or front – teeth. This type of filler tooth is attached to white-colored metal bands that are bonded to the abutting teeth for an impeccable and undetectable finish.

A removable dental bridge is also known as a partial denture. Removable partial dentures are replacement teeth that are embedded into a pink or gum colored plastic base. It attaches to the teeth surrounding the gap with metal clasps or “precision attachments,” which are virtually undetectable. Removable, partial dentures can be taken out of the mouth to clean, which some patients prefer. They are also cost effective.

Another device utilized to fill in the gaps of patients’ missing teeth is known as the cantilever. The cantilever is an appliance that is used when a patient has a gap in their teeth, but only has existing teeth on a single side of the gap. The filler tooth in this type of treatment is attached to two crowns, which are bonded to the patient’s existing teeth to anchor the filler tooth into its appropriate position.

An implanted dental bridge is an appliance that will be surgically attached to either your jawbone or to tissue. An implanted appliance will require the installation of an artificial root into the jawbone, which will heal and become a part of the bone into which it is placed. Once installed and healed, implanted appliances have been known to be as durable and as natural as the patient’s original teeth.
